Inverclyde Central face battle to avoid relegation from the Glasgow League

Inverclyde Central Chess Club go into their final match of the season on 7th April knowing that only a win - as well as favourable results in other matches - can preserve their status in the the top tier of the Glasgow Chess League.

Inverclyde had a very difficult start to the season, losing their first four games. They recovered by beating bottom club Glasgow Montrose, but could only draw with fellow strugglers Giffnock. Two further defeats have made this game a must-win for the Gourock based club.

Inverclyde are away to Phones A, who were in danger themselves, before securing their own league status with an upset win versus Stepps, who defeated Inverclyde 6.5-1.5. The teams are likely to be evenly matched on the night, so Inverclyde will need strong performances from most of their players to give themselves a chance of staying up.
