Inverclyde 7-1 Crowwood

Inverclyde Central beat Crowwood 7-1 in the first Glasgow League match of the season.

Outgrading their opponents on every board, Inverclyde were strong favourites in the opening match of the Glasgow League season. Early wins from David Logue and Kevin McDonald and a draw from Stephen Hilton gave in Inverclyde an early 2.5-0.5 lead. John Calder, playing on board 2, drew his game to take Inverclyde another half point closer to victory. The final four games all involved players of one or both sides in time trouble. Inverclyde players held the advantage in two of the games, but were in difficulties in the other two. Thomas Matheis and Gary McPheator won the games they were ahead in, and Stephen Doherty and Jim McGranghan handled the time pressure better than their opponents to win and give Inverclyde a clean sweep of the remaining boards. The 7-1 win was somewhat flattering to Inverclyde, and on another day the result would have been alot closer. The result gives Inverclyde a great start to the season, and with no defeats suffered, will surely give the players confidence for tougher games to come.
