Inverclyde Central Chess Club won the first of two crucial matches in the relegation dogfight in Divison 1 of the Glasgow League. Having secured only one win from the first five matches it was crucial that Inverclyde defeated fellow stugglers Hamilton B. Fortunately Inverclyde possessed a significant grading advantage over the eight boards, and this translated into a comfortable win. Victories by top board Kevin McDonald, Stephen Hilton, Stephen Doherty, Jim McGranaghan and David Logue and a draw by John Calder gave Inverclyde a 5.5-2.5 win. The victory places Inverclyde on four points, lifting them out of the relegation zone and almost certainly relegates Hamilton B. Full results below:
