Inverclyde Central lose to title challengers Cathcart A

Inverclyde Central 2.5- 5.5 Cathcart A

Inverclyde Central Chess Club faced a tough task hosting Cathcart A, perennial title challengers in Division 1 of the Glasgow League, a team they have never beaten. Sadly this record was to continue for another season, as Inverclyde though performing well, were, in the end, comfortably beaten.
Cathcart were considerably weakened by the absence their International Master Roddy McKay on board one, but still held a grading advantage on six of the eight boards. A win by John Calder and draws by David Logue, Stephen Riley and Jim Montgomery took the score to 2.5 points each with three games to finish. Unfortunately there was no further success for the Inverclyde team, as mistakes, time pressure and stong play from their Cathcart opponents cost them the last three games.

The result places Inverclyde in midtable in the Glasgow League, with two wins and and two defeats from their first four games. As tough as this match was, the next match is even more challenging - away to League Champions Bearsden.
