The match began well for the visitors with wins on boards eight and board two. Inverclyde got on the scoresheet with draw from Jim Montgomery against FIDE Master Iain Swan; and and a draw for David Logue in an endgame with opposite-coloured bishops. Polytechnic extended their lead to 4-1 with a win on board 6, before Inverclyde's Carsten Bolln kept them in the march with a fine win on board 5. Unfortunately, this win was to prove to be only a consolation for Inverclyde as their opponents won the final two games impressively, securing a comfortable 6-2 win overall.
While disappointed to lose, Inverclyde will be happy to have a difficult fixture out of the way and can look forward to their next Glasgow League fixture versus local rivals Paisley. In the meantime, Inverclyde travel to Dunfermline for the opening fixtures of the Scottish National Chess League, in what looks to be a very competitive Division 3.
