Heavy Defeat For Inverclyde Central

Inverclyde Central Chess Club suffered a heavy defeat in the Glasgow League, against Hamilton A, one of the strongest teams in Scotland. Hamilton, who have won the Glasgow League in two of the last three seasons, heavily out-graded Inverclyde, who were also at the disadvantage of being a player down due to illness causing them to default one of the boards.

Inverclyde's top two Kevin McDonald and Jim Montgomery proved a match for Hamilton's best, with both games drawn. However their efforts could were not enough as Hamilton swept the remaining five boards for a crushing victory.

While the size of the defeat is a blow, defeat was not unexpected against such strong opponents, and Inverclyde's survival in the First Division of the Glasgow League will be decided in other matches.
