Inverclyde Central Make Progress in National League

Having made an excellent start to Divison 4 of the Scottish National Chess League by winning both their opening matches, Inverclyde could be confident going into their second set of games at the central venue in Dunfermline. Their third round match was against an Ayr team whom they outgraded on four out of the five boards. However, despite Inverclyde's advantages, strong performances from several of the Ayr team made the match very difficult for Inverclyde, and they could only draw the match 2.5 points each.

Inverclyde were even stonger favourites in their fourth round game against Aberdeen, with significant grading advantages on every board. Again, they struggled to live up to this status as upsets on the top two boards left them in danger of a shocking defeat; fortunately Inverclyde's players on the remaining three boards were able to win their games to secure a 3-2 victory.

Despite the relatively disappointing performances, Inverclyde could be happy with the results. A draw and a win leaves them on 3.5/4 and in first place in the table.
