Inverclyde Central 1.5 - 6.5 Shettleston A

Inverclyde Central Chess Club suffered a heavy defeat against reigning Glasgow League champions Shettleston, losing 6.5-1.5 without winning a game. Shettleston, as champions and with significant grading advantages on almost every board were heavy favourites, but Inverclyde could take confidence from managing to draw the match last season.
There was, however, to be no repeat of that result, as Shettleston, led by International Master Douglas Bryson ground out win after win. While the margin of defeat was wide, Inverclyde's players could take a degree of comfort from creditworthy draws secured by Stephen Hilton and Jim McGranaghan, against strong opposition. Inverclyde Central remain on zero points after four games and next face a must win match against Crowwood if they are to have a realistic chance of avoiding relegation.
