Opening Day Defeat for Inverclyde Central

 Hamilton A 6-2 Inverclyde Central

Inverclyde Central suffered a defeat against the reigning champions Hamilton A in the opening fixture of the Glasgow Chess League Division 1. Inverclyde went into the match as underdogs, heavily outgraded by the home team, who were able to field International Master Andrew Muir on board 1. The odds were tilted further against Inverclyde due to their being a player short - giving Hamilton a 1-0 start.
The Inverclyde players fought well, but the substantial grading differences told, as Hamilton soon built a healthy lead. Andrew Curran struck back for Inverclyde, recording a fine win. However, this wasn't enough to stem Hamilton's tide, and they soon secured the points needed to make the match secure. In the last game to finish Inverclyde's Carsten Bolln outplayed his highly-rated opponent, securing a consolation win for the visitors.
Though this was a tough start to the season for the club, the fine wins for Curran and Bolln give cause for optimism for the games ahead in the Glasgow League and National Chess League
