Inverclyde 2- 6 Giffnock A

Inverclyde slumped to a disappointing defeat to Giffnock A in the second match of the Glasgow League Chess season. Giffnock have long proved difficult opponents for Inverclyde, with the team frequently underperforming in this fixture. Last season Inverclyde bucked the trend spectacularly, crushing their opponents 7.5-0.5, and were confident before the match. However, this season the match reverted to type as Inverclyde underperformed, suffering a comprehensive defeat despite the teams being evenly matched in grading. Gary McPheator, who moves to 2/2 for the season, was the only winner, with John Calder and Ian Nelson drawing their games. The other five players were defeated, as Giffnock won comfortably. Inverclyde must now regroup to face a difficult challenge in their next match, away to the champions Hamilton A.
